tonal drawing

A Monday morning class. Early in the course of study. 

The previous weeks' focus was line based drawings. 

Now - time to consider the fall of light.

Trying not to draw an outline and 'colour' it in. 

Constructing a drawing with charcoal / sepia tones. Making a drawing of shadow / lowlights - allowing the white of the paper to be the highlights - where no media is applied.

Not as easy as it may seem.....
